I think having 2-3 dermatology research experiences with 2-3 citations out of each of those would be more than sufficient to get you competitive for dermatology as an applicant without a research year. When does your 4th year start? Most people will schedule their home dermatology rotation, followed by a couple dermatology away rotations, all before the application opens in the Fall, so that they can get letters of recommendation and build connections. That’s basically what it was last year. It isn’t a crazy scramble to schedule though. There’s one day or a time frame where most programs will send out interviews, then you have an arbitrary time frame to accept them, and then the programs send out another wave of interviews.
