Geochemical analyses of ammonoid fossils are potentially very powerful tools for discussing paleoecology of ammonoids. Many proxies for seawater qualities can be measured within well preserved aragonite shells of ammonoids. However, geochemical signals on ammonoid shells might be degraded by diagenetic alteration in some cases.
